Shadows of the East
The Solaris Templarae, more commonly known as the Templar of the Sun, are an order of warrior-priests devoted to the service of Pelor. They combine the divine abilities of Pelor’s sun clerics with the martial prowess of the Sagos’s greatest fighters. Membership into the order cannot be requested. New initiates can only be accepted into the order with the recommendation of a senior Templar. Once chosen, the initiates undergo rigorous training in the divine arts and in combat. A Templar of the Sun is a master healer and a deadly warrior with sword, spear, mace, and longbow. New initiates are usually chosen at a young age so that they can grow under the guidance of the order. However, age is not officially a factor in the selection process and many Templar are former clerics and paladins of Pelor who exhibited exceptional devotion and formidable skill in combat. It is possible for followers of other gods to be chosen, however this is exceptionally rare, as the initiate must set aside their former faith and submit themselves fully to the service of Pelor. The most notable Templar to follow this path was Ser Thomas Crane, known as the Morning Star. Each initiate who completes the rigorous training is personally consecrated by the Grand Master of the order and anointed as a Templar.
The Solaris Templarae are dedicated to healing the sick, defending the weak, and crusading against the forces of undeath wherever they may arise, and as such they take no part in the politics of Sagos. Their mission is to serve the greater good, not to fight in the petty quarrels of the thirteen cities. The current Emperor of Sagos, Ambrose Godalming, is a senior member of this order, but because of their neutrality the Emperor has no authority to command the Templar into action.
